The other day I got a call from one of the guys my husband works with asking me to make him my famous Red Velvet cakes for his birthday. I don't add any thing special except for alot of love goes into every bit of the recipe. I must say it's not the healthest cake, but it's one of our traditions Christmas. I hope this recipe brings as much love and joy to your house for Christmas as it has ours.
1 box of Duncan Hines red velvet cake mix
1 box vanilla instant pudding
add ingredients listed on cake box. then add dry vanilla pudding (do not add milk)
Icing Recipe:
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup butter
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup of sugar
4 tablespoons of flour
Preheat oven to 350 degress. Mix cake mix as directed but add in 1 box of dry instant vanilla pudding to mixture. Pour into 2 8inch round sprayed pans. Bake for 35 minutes. Make sure they stick done, remove from heat, and let cool. In a separate bowl mix icing ingredients together. Whip on high for 10minutes. Consistency is fluffy. Once cakes are cooled, remove one onto a plate. Spread icing on top layer, not to thick. Place second cake on top. Spread icing on top, sides, and all around. Store in frig for 30 minutes. All done! Enjoy!
