Electro-Pure, Inc. has been producing and marketing premium quality, commercially sold Silver Colloids for nearly 15 years. Years before beginning this company I had done extensive research into the use of and side effects of silver. I found reams of anecdotes, history and little problems with this otherwise seemingly ‘wonder drug’. The only side effect I found was mention of the cosmetic side effect coined Argryia, the graying of the skin caused by large doses of Silver compounds usually encountered in industry and a few cases with earlier, chemically manufactured compounds of silver called Mild Silver Proteins. During the past 15 years there has been only three cases of Argyria reported, Rosemary Jacobs, Stan Jones and Paul Karason, in each of these cases there has been considerable coverage in the media. The first ‘poster child’ of the established medical industry was Rosemary Jacobs who originally complained of her acquiring this very rare cosmetic side effect of silver overdose by taking nose drops. In the early history of her Argyria she said her complaint to the FDA was ignored. Apparently she had been prescribed a FDA approved, silver compound called silver sulfadiazine nearly 60 years ago by her doctor. She had turned gray as a side effect of taking this doctor recommended product for years and felt she had been done wrong. Yet the reports imply that her case was some time in recent history and does not mention the dose nor exactly how long she had taken the prescription. The FDA ignored her complaints until she took it to her congressman who then put political pressure on the FDA to do something about this product. Their response was to take her testimony and then make her a spectacle for all the country to see, but to say she had taken Silver Colloidal solution. This was the first case where I began to see there was something amiss in the reporting. I wondered how could she first say it was a doctor prescribed, FDA approved nose drop, but then when it was reported to the press it became Silver Colloid? I felt it must have been a mistake and just let it go, as this was one rare case of a cosmetic side effect that had had little notoriety in all the hundreds of years it had been used as an antibiotic. There were no cases of any toxic effects nor links to other diseases or cancer caused by silver. My research had found but a few rare cases in the late 1800’s and one in the early 1900’s, but all were either factory workers exposed to silver dust or silversmiths who had breathed large doses of silver fumes over many years they during their work on jewelry. Oddly enough these cases were found on a FDA website. There was mention of the FDA banning mild silver proteins because of their toxicity, yet they are still sold in healthfood stores across the country. I began to wonder that there was a big disconnect between the truth and what the FDA reports in their websites. I found very interesting wording in the laws that dealt with colloidal silver and most curious was reference to the fact that it was not approved by the FDA and had been determined to be misbranded, ineffective and certainly not safe. Yet later in that same document (search Fung/Bowen on the FDA site) they say that it is not illegal except when claims are made that it might treat, cure or otherwise have effect on any disease and only assumed ineffective because it had not been tested nor approved by the FDA. The little statement we have all seen on all the over-the-counter supplements frees those products of being FDA approved by stating that they have not been approved by them nor intended in any way to do basically do anything.
Years passed without anyone in the press but Rosemary Jacobs and she was on the first page of any web search for Silver Colloids and well known to the medical establishment as the ‘reason’ for not using silver as a medicine. Then around 2005 another case of Argyria hit the press when Stan Jones, a Libertarian candidate for congress in Montana turned himself grey taking his own silver colloid using a machine he had bought on the Internet. He claimed to have taken an 8-ounce glassful every day for nearly 5 years because he was afraid that the Y2K scare was going to make antibiotics unavailable. I wondered why would you take an antibiotic every day for that reason. Yet, he was written up in every newspaper and showed up on TV shows across the country for weeks. He said it was a great product that had kept him free of illness and that he would continue to take it despite the fact that he had turned himself an ashen grey color he felt fine.
About a month ago Paul Karason showed up on the news front. Dubbed the Blue Man, Forever Blue, The Blue Guy, Karason dressed in blue shirt with blue background, has since been featured in every newspaper, news magazine, People magazine and on every major TV morning news show, the View and just this week he was featured on the Oprah Show with Dr. Oz. His story is similar to Stan Jones in that he had purchased a colloidal silver-making machine on the Internet and begun taking daily heavy doses of his own homemade colloid nearly 15 years ago. He was taking a cupful for his acid reflux disease and then later putting it all over his body to treat a skin disorder. Despite the pleas of his hosts on these shows, he insists that he loves the product and continues to take it on a regular basis. The curious thing I noticed on his case is that on several of the shows and particularly Oprah’s Dr. Oz, doctors were present and insisted he get medical attention to ‘save’ his life as it must have done damage to his internal organs. They felt he must be in danger of death from liver or kidney failure and that his brain was also blue and could lead to death by seizure. Paul Karason insisted however that he felt better than ever and really didn’t feel the need to worry about his health. He said that the silver had cured his acid reflux disease in only a few days and cured him of his recurring sinus infections that had plagued him for years. Karason was amazed at how good he felt overall and how he no longer had problems with his skin. Dr. Oz made him promise by shaking hands, to let him take a blood sample after the show to make sure that he was indeed safe. This is one of the features of the Oprah show with Dr. Oz where he will interview guests and then do free work-ups on their condition so that in subsequent shows he can diagnose and make recommendations for their healing. I find it curious that these doctors all insist on finding some other more serious side effect of taking silver.
So the question comes down to why the blue guy? Who is scamming whom here? The medical establishment claims this product is dangerous and ineffective, yet there are millions of people that swear by its ability to heal and treat a myriad of infectious diseases. I can say that there is a few truths as to why these people have acquired Argyria. One and foremost, is that they have made their own homemade colloid. They are cloudy with large particles of silver, unlike Electro-Pure, Inc. colloids. which are thoroughly filtered until clear as water. These silver colloid making machines are sold on the internet and my research found that they have no quality control mechanisms and use silver that is not necessarily pure silver, nor particularly safe as some were imported from China and may have been contaminated with all sorts of impurities including toxic heavy metals. Electro-Pure, Inc. silver colloids are precision quality control tested and accurate in PPM levels to assure consistent quality and quantity of silver in every batch.
Second is that in all these cases, the victims of Argyria have all taken extremely high doses every day of these homemade colloids for many years before seeing the graying of their skin. There is positive support of silver colloids from manufactures of them, me included, but also there are millions of satisfied users of these commercially produced products that have come forth and said they have had great results and are not blue or grey. Most recently if you go to the Oprah website you can find many of these people writing in to her comments chat line as a result of the show with Dr. Oz. there are some neigh Sayers there too, but they have not used the product and only state what they have read negative about the product on the internet.
In a nutshell, if you use a commercially produced, quality controlled, pure silver colloid like Electro-Pure, Inc. has produced for over 15 years, you have nothing to fear. And more importantly, DO NOT TAKE THE PRODUCT EVERY DAY FOR YEARS AND YEARS AT THOUSANDS OF TIMES THE RECOMMENDED DOSE!
Just ask yourself, do you take other antibiotics or any drug or supplement for that matter, at hundreds of times the recommended dose everyday even though you don’t need them anymore?
Our product is effective at small doses and usually will easily overcome any infection in days. PERIOD. Take Electro-Pure, Inc. silver colloid at the recommended doses and then only when you need to treat an infection, then stop. You do not need to take it everyday, as it will treat the infection even after you begin to show symptoms.
